Types of social groups

Imagine your best friends, your family, or even your whole class at school. These are all examples of 'social groups'! A social group is just a bunch of people who hang out together and know each other. Some groups are super small and cozy, like your family. Others can be bigger, like everyone on your soccer team. It's all about how people connect and share things together.

The very first groups we join are usually our families. These are called 'primary groups'. In these groups, everyone knows each other really well and cares about each other a lot. You share secrets, play games, and help each other out. It's like having a built-in team that's always there for you, no matter what. These close bonds are super important as you grow up.

Then there are other groups, like your classmates or people in a club. These are called 'secondary groups'. You might be in these groups because you all like the same thing, like playing a sport or learning about dinosaurs. You might not know everyone as well as your family, but you work together for a common goal. It's like being on a bigger team with a shared mission!

Groups help us learn and grow! When you're with your family, you learn how to share and be kind. When you're with classmates, you learn new things and how to work with others. Groups give us a sense of belonging, like we're part of something special. They help us feel safe and supported, and they make life more fun because we have friends to share adventures with!
