Fun Fact
The treaty was sometimes called the Articles of Union back then!

Two Kingdoms Become One!

Once upon a time, there were two separate kingdoms: England and Scotland. They were like two best friends who decided to play in the same giant playground forever! The Treaty of Union was like a special agreement, or a super-important handshake, that made them join together.

This new, giant kingdom was called Great Britain. It was like taking two LEGO castles and clicking them together to make one enormous castle!

How Did They Join?

It wasn't like a magic spell! Leaders from both England and Scotland had to talk and agree on all the rules. They wrote down these rules in something called the Articles of Union. Then, the people in charge, called Parliament, had to vote. In Scotland, after lots of talking, 110 people voted YES to join, and 67 voted NO. It was a big decision to end Scotland's old way of being all by itself.

A Brand New Country!

When the treaty officially started on May 1st, 1707, it was a huge moment! The leader of Scotland's Parliament said, 'There's an end of an old song,' which meant their old kingdom was changing. The church bells even played a tune that sounded a bit sad, like saying goodbye to the old days. But it was also exciting because a new, bigger country was born!

Why It's a Big Deal!

This treaty was super important because it created the country we now know as Great Britain. It means England and Scotland share things like their government and laws. It’s like when your family decides to share a big backyard instead of having two small ones. This union changed history and made a powerful new nation that is still around today!
