The Treaty of Sèvres 1920 - Free version

Key Facts
A Big Paper Promise!
Imagine a super important paper signed by grown-ups after a big fight called World War I. This paper was called the Treaty of Sèvres. It was signed in 1920 between some of the winners of the war and a big empire called the Ottoman Empire. But guess what? The Ottoman Empire never officially agreed to it, so it was like a promise that wasn't kept!
Where Did This Treaty Come From?
After World War I ended, the winning countries wanted to make sure the world was peaceful. They met with the Ottoman Empire, which was like a very old kingdom. They wanted to divide up some of the Ottoman Empire's lands. The treaty was signed in a fancy place in France, in a room at a porcelain factory. It was supposed to be a new beginning, but it caused a lot of arguments.
What Was So Special About It?
This treaty was special because it tried to break apart the Ottoman Empire into many smaller pieces. Some lands were going to be given to countries like France, Britain, and Greece. It was like sharing a giant pizza, but the people who lived there didn't like being divided up. This made many people very angry and led to more fighting.
Did It Really Happen?
Even though the treaty was signed, it didn't really happen the way it was written. The people of the Ottoman Empire didn't agree with it, and they started a new fight to make their own country. Later, a different agreement was made, and it led to the country we now know as Turkey. So, the Treaty of Sèvres was more like a failed plan than a real change.
