Meet the Giant Hills!

Imagine hills that aren't made by nature, but by people! These are called Toumbas, and they are found in a country called Greece. They look like big mounds, sometimes as tall as a small building.

But guess what? They are actually super old leftover homes! People built their houses on top of each other for a very, very long time, making these hills grow bigger and bigger.

It's like building with LEGOs, but with mud and sticks over thousands of years!

Secrets from Long Ago

Long, long ago, people in Greece lived in houses made of mud and wood. When their houses fell down, they didn't always move away. Instead, they would build new houses right on top of the old ones!

Over hundreds and hundreds of years, this made big piles of old homes, which we now call Toumbas. It's like if your school was rebuilt on the same spot many, many times, and the old parts became a giant hill!

What's Inside a Toumba?

When archaeologists dig into Toumbas, they find amazing treasures! They find old pots that people used for cooking and storing food. They also find tiny weights that were used to make cloth, like the clothes you wear.

Sometimes, they even find lots of old seeds that were saved for planting. These seeds are so old, they are like a time capsule from when dinosaurs might have roamed the Earth (but not really, Toumbas are from after the dinosaurs!).

Why Toumbas Are Super Cool!

Toumbas are like giant history books made of dirt and old buildings. They help us learn how people lived thousands of years ago. We can see what they ate, how they cooked, and what their homes looked like. It's like finding a secret diary that tells us all about their lives. These mounds show us that people have been building and living in the same places for a very, very long time.
