Key Facts
Meet the Stone Knight!
Philippe Pot was a brave knight and a big deal a long, long time ago, around the year 1480. He wanted a special stone bed for when he passed away. This stone bed is called a tomb. It shows him lying down, wearing armor and holding his hands like he's praying. It's like a statue telling his story! He even had it made when he was 52, 13 years before he died. That's a lot of planning!
Tiny Helpers Carrying the Knight
Around the stone knight are eight little figures dressed in dark clothes. They look like they are carrying the knight on their shoulders. These are called 'mourners' or 'pleurants,' and they are like helpers carrying Philippe Pot to his final resting place. They are made of stone too, and were once painted with bright colors and even gold! It’s like a stone parade to honor him.
Where Did This Amazing Tomb Go?
Philippe Pot wanted his tomb in a special church in France. But after many years, during a big change called the French Revolution, his tomb was taken! It traveled around and even sat in a garden for a while. Now, it's in a super famous museum in Paris called the Louvre. It’s so important that it was carefully fixed up between 2016 and 2018!
Why Is This Stone Bed So Cool?
This tomb is super cool because it’s a piece of history that tells us about Philippe Pot. It shows us what knights wore, how important people were honored, and how artists made amazing stone sculptures. It’s like a history book made of rock! It also shows us how people long ago thought about remembering someone special forever.
