A Cool Fact
The Royal Air Force used planes to bomb targets during this war!

Why Did They Start Fighting?

A new leader named Amanullah Khan became the Amir of Afghanistan. He wanted his country to be totally free from Britain's control. He also wanted everyone to see him as the boss! So, he declared a special kind of war called a 'Jihad' against the British. He hoped this would help Afghanistan become a truly independent country, like a superhero finally breaking free from a villain's grip.

The Big Scramble!

In 1919, Afghanistan's soldiers marched into British India in three places. They thought they could take back some old lands. At first, they won some battles, even taking a town called Bagh!

But the British army fought back. They pushed the Afghan soldiers back. There were fights in places like Kurram and Thal.

The British even used their amazing flying machines, the Royal Air Force, to drop bombs from the sky!

A Quick Peace!

Even though the fighting was short, it was pretty exciting! The British army was strong, and the Royal Air Force's planes were a big surprise. After just a few months, in June 1919, Amanullah Khan decided to ask for a truce, which means stopping the fighting. It was like saying, 'Okay, let's take a break!' This quick war showed everyone that Afghanistan was ready to stand on its own two feet.

What Happened Next?

On August 8, 1919, they signed a peace treaty. This treaty was super important because it meant Afghanistan was officially in charge of its own foreign friendships and decisions. Britain also agreed on where the border between India and Afghanistan would be. This war helped Afghanistan become a fully independent country, and the new border is still there today!
