The Raincoats

Imagine a band that sounds like a colorful splash of paint! That's The Raincoats. They started making music way back in 1977 in London, England. Two friends, Ana and Gina, were studying art and decided to start a band. They wanted to make music that was different and exciting, like a surprise party for your ears. They played guitars and bass, and sometimes even had a violin making cool sounds!

Ana da Silva and Gina Birch met at art school, which is like a super creative playground for grown-ups. They were so inspired by art that they wanted their music to be just as unique. They teamed up with other talented musicians, like Vicky who played the violin, and drummers named Palmolive and Richard.

Together, they created a sound that was totally their own, like a secret handshake for music lovers.

The Raincoats didn't sound like other bands. They were brave and tried new things, making music that was sometimes quiet and thoughtful, and sometimes loud and energetic. They released three albums that were like musical storybooks.

After a little break, The Raincoats got back together and made even more amazing music. They released another album called 'Looking in the Shadows'. Their music is still loved today because it's so original and inspiring.
