What Was the Big Fuss?

Once upon a time, Mexico had a president named Francisco I. Madero. But some people didn't like him and wanted him gone! They started a big fight in the capital city, Mexico City. This fight lasted for ten days, from February 9 to February 19 in 1913. It was called 'La Decena Trágica,' which means 'The Ten Tragic Days.' It was a very sad and scary time for everyone living there.

Who Was Causing Trouble?

The people who wanted President Madero out were led by generals like Victoriano Huerta and Félix Díaz. They were like a team trying to make the president quit. They even got help from someone far away, the United States ambassador! They wanted to make it seem like the whole country was in a big mess so the president would have to step down.

Boom! Bang! Oh No!

During these ten days, there were lots of loud noises from shooting and bombs. Even though the fighting was mostly between soldiers, the noise and danger spread to the streets. Buildings got damaged, and sadly, many people who weren't even fighting got hurt. It was like a big, scary storm happening right in the middle of the city.

The Story Ends, But What Happens Next?

Finally, the fighting stopped on February 19. But the story wasn't over. The president and his vice president were captured. They thought they would be allowed to leave the country, but sadly, they were hurt and died a few days later. This event made the Mexican Revolution even bigger, with more fighting to come.
