Where the Mountains Give a Hug!

Sulaymaniyah is a super cool city in a place called the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. It's like a secret hideout because it's surrounded by big, tall mountains! There are mountains named Azmar, Goizha, and Qaiwan that stand guard in the northeast.

To the south, there's Baranan Mountain, and in the west, there are the rolling Tasluja Hills. These mountains make the city look like it's in a giant, natural bowl!

Sunshine and Snowflakes!

The weather in Sulaymaniyah is like a rollercoaster! In the summer, it gets super hot and dry, perfect for staying inside with a cool drink. But when winter comes, it gets cold and wet, sometimes with snow! It's a semi-arid climate, which means it gets a good amount of rain but also has long, sunny days. The mountains help shape the weather, making it unique.

A Prince's Special Gift!

Sulaymaniyah wasn't always here. A prince named Ibrahim Pasha Baban decided to build it in 1784. He named it after his dad, Sulayman Pasha. For a long time, from 1784 to 1850, it was the most important city for the Baban people, like a royal capital! It’s amazing to think that a city can be created by someone’s idea and then grow for hundreds of years.

What's So Special About This City?

Sulaymaniyah is the capital city of its region, which means it's the main city where important decisions are made. People here speak Kurdish, which is a special language. The city is famous for being a beautiful place with mountains all around. It's a place where history is important, and people have lived there for a very, very long time, creating their own traditions.
