Sudanese civil war (2023–present)
Key Facts
Why Did the Fighting Start?
Imagine two friends who used to play together, but then they had a big disagreement about who gets to be in charge. That's a little like what happened in Sudan. Two powerful groups, the SAF and the RSF, started fighting.
It all began because they couldn't agree on how to share power after they both took control of the country. This disagreement turned into a big fight that started in the capital city, Khartoum.
Where is the Fighting Happening?
The biggest fights are happening in Khartoum, the capital city of Sudan. It's like a giant playground where two teams are battling. But the fighting is also happening in a place called Darfur. Sadly, many people there have been hurt, and some news reports say it's like a very sad and unfair game where one group is being treated very badly because of who they are.
What's Happening to the People?
This fighting is making life very hard for many people in Sudan. It's like when your lunchbox is empty, but much, much worse. Millions of people don't have enough food to eat, and it's very difficult to get help. Many families have had to leave their homes to find safety, like when you have to move to a new house because your old one is broken.
Who Are the Main Players?
There are two main leaders in this conflict. One is General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, who leads the SAF. The other is General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, who is called Hemedti and leads the RSF. They are like the captains of the two teams, and their decisions affect everyone. Other smaller groups have also joined in the fighting.
