Where the River Roars!

This amazing bridge is in a city called Minneapolis, in a state called Minnesota. It leaps right over the Mississippi River, which is one of the longest rivers in America! The bridge is right where the water tumbles down at Saint Anthony Falls.

It's like a big, rocky waterfall that makes the river sound super loud and exciting. The bridge is made of stone, which makes it look like it grew right out of the riverbed!

A Bridge Built for Trains!

A long, long time ago, when your grandparents were probably not even born, a rich man named James J. Hill wanted to build a special bridge. He was a railroad tycoon, which means he owned lots of trains!

He built this bridge so his trains could carry people and things across the river to a new train station. It took a lot of hard work and cost a lot of money, like buying a whole bunch of new video games!

Super Strong Stone Power!

Guess what? This bridge is the ONLY bridge made of stone that goes all the way across the Mississippi River! It's super strong and has been standing for a very, very long time. It was finished in 1883, which is older than your parents, grandparents, and even your great-grandparents! It's like a giant stone puzzle that fits together perfectly to hold up the trains.

Now It's for Walking and Biking!

Even though trains don't use it anymore, the Stone Arch Bridge is still super important! Now, people like you and me can walk and ride our bikes across it. It's a fantastic place to see the river and the city. It's so special that it's on a list of important historic places, like a treasure from the past that we get to enjoy today!
