Key Facts
Meet the SS Shalom!
The SS Shalom was a very special ship, like a floating hotel that could travel across big oceans! It was built a long, long time ago, in 1964. Think of it like a giant bus, but instead of driving on roads, it sailed on water.
It was built in a country called France and was made for an Israeli company called ZIM Lines. Its first big job was to take people from Israel all the way to New York City, which is super far away!
A Ship with Many Names!
After sailing for a while, the SS Shalom got a new name and a new owner. It became the SS Hanseatic in 1967. But its adventures didn't stop there! It kept changing owners and names, like playing dress-up. It was also called SS Doric, SS Royal Odyssey, and SS Regent Sun. Each name meant it was going on new journeys and seeing new parts of the world. It was like a ship that loved to explore!
A Sad Accident
One day, the SS Shalom had a very sad accident. It bumped into another ship called the Stolt Dagali. This happened right outside New York City. Sadly, some people on the Stolt Dagali were lost in the accident, and the Stolt Dagali was damaged. It was a serious event, and it reminds us that even big ships need to be very careful when they are sailing.
The End of a Long Journey
Even though the SS Shalom had many exciting adventures, its sailing days eventually came to an end. In 1995, the company that owned it had some problems, and the ship stopped sailing. People tried to make it sail again, but it didn't work out.
Finally, in 2001, the ship sailed on its very last trip. It was going to a place called India to be taken apart, but sadly, it sank in the ocean on the way. It was the end of a very long and eventful life for this amazing ship.
