Key Facts
The Secret Soldier Superhighway!
Once upon a time, there was a super-duper long road called the Spanish Road. It wasn't for cars or bikes, but for soldiers and important supplies! This road was like a secret highway that helped Spain move its armies and treasures from one faraway place to another. It was like a giant puzzle piece connecting two big parts of their kingdom that were very, very far apart.
Why Build Such a Long Road?
Spain had a big problem! They needed to send soldiers to a place called Flanders, but the sea was too dangerous. Pirates and enemy ships were everywhere! So, they decided to build this super long road. It was about as long as walking from your house to the next town, and then to the town after that! It was much safer than sailing, even though it took a lot longer.
A Road for Moving Mountains of Soldiers!
This road was super important because it helped Spain move LOTS of soldiers. Imagine moving more than 123,000 soldiers! That's more kids than in a hundred schools! They moved them this way instead of by boat because it was safer. This road helped Spain win battles and keep its lands safe for a long, long time.
When the Road Got Blocked!
But then, things changed! Another country called France decided to join the fight against Spain. They were like the bullies who decided to block the road. Because France joined in, the Spanish Road couldn't be used anymore. It was like someone put a giant stop sign on their secret highway, and the soldiers had to find new ways to travel.
