Solvent

Imagine you have a pile of colorful sprinkles. A solvent is like a special liquid that can make those sprinkles vanish, mixing them into the liquid itself! This is called dissolving.

Solvents are usually liquids, but they can sometimes be solids or even gases. Water is a super common solvent, and it’s what helps all the tiny parts inside living things, like you and me, stay mixed together. Isn't that neat?

People have been using solvents for a very, very long time, even before they had fancy names for them! They probably noticed that water could dissolve sugar or salt. Solvents are like secret helpers in our everyday lives! They are used to make paints so they spread smoothly, and also to take paint off if you make a mistake. They help make the inks in your pens and pencils work. Even when you get a stain on your clothes, a special solvent can help lift it away! They are also used to make perfumes smell so nice.

Think about cleaning your room. Sometimes you need a special cleaner to get rid of sticky messes. That cleaner is often a solvent! Solvents are also used to make things like nail polish remover. They help take off old polish so you can put on a new color. They are also used in factories to help make important things like medicines and even some of the parts in your toys.
