Where is This River?

The Singapore River is like a long, winding ribbon in the southern part of Singapore. It starts a bit further west and flows all the way to a big water playground called Marina Reservoir. Think of it like a road that leads to a fun park! The land around the river is called the Singapore River Planning Area, and it's right in the middle of the city.

Boats, Boats Everywhere!

A long, long time ago, this river was super busy! Lots of boats, big and small, would travel up and down carrying all sorts of goods. It was like a superhighway for ships! There were special spots called quays, like Robertson Quay, Clarke Quay, and Boat Quay, where boats would stop to load and unload. It was the heart of the city's activity!

From Salty to Sweet!

Guess what? The Singapore River used to be a salty sea river! But something amazing happened in 2008. A giant structure called the Marina Barrage was built. This dam changed everything! It stopped the salty sea water from coming in, and now the river is filled with fresh water, like a giant, clean swimming pool!

A River for Fun Now!

Because the river is now fresh water and much cleaner, it's become a place for people to enjoy. You can see boats still, but they are more for taking people on tours to see the city. It's a beautiful spot to walk along, and it's a reminder of how the river has changed from a busy port to a place for everyone to relax and have fun.
