Key Facts
Singapore: A Tiny Island's Big Adventure!
Singapore is a super small island country, like a tiny dot on a map! For a while, it was like a little sibling to a much bigger country called Malaysia. Think of it like a small playground joining a giant schoolyard. Singapore has amazing buildings and busy streets, but it's also very green with lots of parks. It's a place where people from all over the world live and work together.
How Did They Become Friends?
A long, long time ago, Singapore and Malaysia were both ruled by the British. Then, in 1963, they decided to become one big country called Malaysia. It was like two best friends deciding to share their toys and their rooms! Singapore was like the energetic little friend, and Malaysia was the bigger, more experienced one. They thought being together would make them stronger and help them grow.
Why Did They Go Their Separate Ways?
Even though they were friends, Singapore and Malaysia started to have different ideas. Singapore wanted to be in charge of its own money and rules. It was like the little friend wanting to make their own lunch instead of sharing.
After just two years, in 1965, they decided it was best to go their own ways. It was a sad goodbye, but it allowed Singapore to become the independent country it is today.
Singapore Today: A Star on Its Own!
Even though Singapore is no longer part of Malaysia, it's still a very important neighbor! Singapore is famous for its super-modern airport, its beautiful gardens, and being a hub for business. It's like a shining star that learned to twinkle all by itself. Malaysia and Singapore still trade and visit each other, showing that even after a split, friends can still be friends.
