Who Was This Roman Ruler?

Imagine a time long, long ago when mighty Rome was ruled by emperors! Severus II was one of them. He was like a king, but for the Roman Empire. He didn't rule alone; he shared his job with others. His time as emperor was super short, like a quick game of tag, lasting only from 306 to 307 AD. That's less than two years!

A Big Fight for Power!

Severus II had a really tough job. He had to share the western part of the Roman Empire with another leader named Constantine I. But the biggest challenge was a big fight against someone named Maxentius. Maxentius wanted to be emperor too and started a civil war. This means Romans were fighting against other Romans! It was a very dangerous time for Severus II.

The Emperor's Tough End

Sadly, Severus II didn't win his big fight. Maxentius was very strong and eventually captured Severus II. Maxentius then took over the part of the empire that Severus II was ruling, including Italy. It was a very sad ending for Severus II, who was killed by Maxentius in September 307 AD. His reign was short and ended in a struggle for power.

Sharing the Empire

Severus II was part of something called the Tetrarchy. This was a special system where four emperors shared the big Roman Empire. It was like having four captains for a giant ship! Severus II was one of these captains, helping to steer the western half. But even with this system, power struggles happened, making his job very difficult.
