Meet the Big Outdoor Room!

Senate Square is like a huge, open-air room in the city of Saint Petersburg, Russia. It's a special place where important buildings stand all around it. Think of it like the biggest playground you've ever seen, but instead of swings, there are grand buildings and a giant statue!

It's right next to a big river called the Neva. This square has had different names over the years, like Peter's Square and Decembrists' Square, before becoming Senate Square again.

The Amazing Bronze Horseman!

The most famous thing in Senate Square is a gigantic statue of a horse with a man riding it. This is the Bronze Horseman, and it honors Peter the Great, a very important leader from a long time ago. The statue is so big, it looks like it could be taller than a three-story building!

It stands on a huge rock that's even bigger than a car. This statue has been here for hundreds of years, watching over the square.

Buildings That Tell Stories!

Around the square, you'll find some very important buildings. There's the Admiralty, which looks like a palace, and the Senate Building. These buildings are where important decisions were made a long, long time ago, kind of like where the principal's office is at school, but much bigger!

They are made of stone and look very grand. These buildings have been here for a very long time, just like the Bronze Horseman.

A Square with Many Names!

This square wasn't always called Senate Square. For a while, it was called Decembrists' Square. This was to remember a big event that happened there in 1825, when some people were unhappy with the leaders and protested.

Before that, it was called Peter's Square, named after the big statue of Peter the Great. It's like a place that gets a new nickname every now and then, but everyone knows it's the same special spot!
