Key Facts
Where Did the Soldiers Come From?
Long, long ago, during a big fight called the American Civil War, two big armies were getting ready for a super important battle. One army, wearing gray, was led by General Robert E. Lee.
The other army, wearing blue, was led by General John Pope. They were both marching around in Virginia, trying to outsmart each other. This battle happened in the same place as a fight before, called the First Battle of Bull Run, but this time, even more soldiers were involved!
Stonewall's Sneaky Plan!
One of the generals, Thomas 'Stonewall' Jackson, was super clever! He made his soldiers march really far and fast, like a secret mission, to surprise the other army. He even captured a place where the blue army kept all their food and supplies!
This made General Pope's army worry about getting home. Stonewall's soldiers then hid behind some hills, waiting for their friends to arrive. It was like a giant game of tag, but with real soldiers!
A Big Rumble Near the Railroad
On the first day of the big fight, Stonewall's soldiers attacked a group of the blue army soldiers. It was a tough fight, and neither side could win easily. Meanwhile, the rest of General Lee's army, led by General James Longstreet, marched through a gap in the mountains to join the battle.
General Pope thought he had Stonewall trapped, so he sent his soldiers to attack the hiding army. But the blue soldiers kept attacking, and the gray soldiers fought back hard!
The Big Surprise Attack!
On the last day, General Pope still thought he was fighting only Stonewall's soldiers. But surprise! General Longstreet's army had arrived and was hiding on the side.
When the blue army attacked again, the gray soldiers used their cannons, and then Longstreet's whole army charged out! It was a huge surprise and a massive attack. The blue army was pushed back all the way to the Bull Run river.
It was a big win for the gray army!
