Meet the Scots!

Imagine a land of tall mountains and deep lochs called Scotland! The people who call it home are called Scots. Long, long ago, different groups of people, like the Picts and Gaels, came together to form the very first Kingdom of Scotland.

Over hundreds of years, other groups joined in, making Scotland a mix of many different peoples. Today, a Scot is anyone whose family comes from Scotland, bringing their own special stories and traditions.

A Kingdom Built by Many!

Scotland wasn't always one big country. First, the Picts and Gaels joined up to make the Kingdom of Alba. Then, people from nearby lands, like the Cumbrians and Angles, became part of Scotland too.

Later, brave sailors from places like Norway and even knights from France arrived and became Scots. It's like a big potluck where everyone brings a different dish, making Scotland's culture super interesting and unique!

Scots Around the World!

Did you know that many Scots have moved to live in other countries? Because of big changes in Scotland long ago, many people sailed across the oceans to places like Canada, Australia, and even the United States. They took their music, their stories, and their kilts with them! You can find lots of people with Scottish roots in places like Nova Scotia in Canada, which is named after Scotland!

What Makes Scots Special?

Scots are known for their strong sense of community and their love of music and storytelling. Think of bagpipes playing a lively tune or tales of brave heroes! They also have unique traditions, like wearing kilts for special occasions. These traditions have traveled all over the world with people who left Scotland, sharing their culture with new friends and neighbors.
