Key Facts
Meet the Helpers!
The Salvation Army is like a big family that helps people who need it most. They are a church that also does amazing charitable work. Think of them as helpers who bring food to hungry people, a warm bed to those without a home, and comfort when there's been a big disaster. They believe in helping everyone, no matter what, and they do this in over 130 countries!
From a Tavern to the World!
It all started a long, long time ago in London, England, in a place called the Blind Beggar Tavern. A kind preacher named William Booth and his wife Catherine wanted to help poor and hungry people. They started this mission in 1865.
Later, they decided to organize it like an army, with leaders called 'Generals' and 'Lieutenants', to help them do their important work even better. It grew from a small mission to a worldwide organization!
Superpowers for Good!
The Salvation Army has special ways of helping. They run charity shops where you can buy cool things and the money helps others. They also have places for people who don't have a home to sleep in, called shelters. When bad things happen, like floods or fires, they are often the first ones there with food and help. They also teach people and help them learn new things, like going to school.
Joining the Helping Team!
People who are part of The Salvation Army are called 'Salvationists'. They are like soldiers in a friendly army, working together. They wear uniforms sometimes, and they have ranks like 'Captain' or 'Major', but instead of fighting, they are fighting against hunger, poverty, and sadness. They want to make the world a kinder place by sharing love and helping hands.
