Where is Sale?

Imagine a town called Sale, sitting on the south side of a river called the Mersey. It's not too far from a big city called Manchester, like a short drive from your school. It's a place where lots of people live and play!

Sale's Super Old Story!

Long, long ago, even before your grandparents were born, people lived in the Sale area! They found old things from the Stone Age, when people used stone tools. Later, Romans and Anglo-Saxons lived there too. Back then, Sale was mostly fields where farmers grew crops and looked after cows. It was a quiet, countryside place, very different from today!

Boats and Trains Made Sale Grow!

Something exciting happened in 1765 when a canal, like a long watery road for boats, arrived in Sale! This helped the town start to get bigger. Then, in 1849, a train track was built! Trains made it super easy for people to travel to and from Manchester. Lots of new people moved to Sale, and the town grew much, much bigger, almost tripling in size!

What Do People Do in Sale?

Today, Sale is a busy town. Many people who live in Sale work in nearby Manchester or other places. They might work in shops, offices, or schools. The town has grown so much that it's now a really important part of the Trafford area. It's a place where families live, go to school, and have fun, with good connections to the big city!
