Safety bicycle

Have you ever seen a bicycle? A safety bicycle is the kind of bike most people ride today! It has two wheels that are the same size, handlebars to steer, and pedals to make it go.

It's called a 'safety' bicycle because it was invented to be much safer and easier to ride than the old bikes that had one giant wheel and one tiny wheel. Think of it like going from a super tall slide to a regular playground slide – much easier to handle!

A long, long time ago, bikes looked very different. They had a HUGE front wheel, sometimes as tall as a grown-up! These were called penny-farthings.

Riding them was tricky and a little scary because if you hit a bump, you could fall right over the handlebars. Then, clever inventors came up with the safety bicycle. It had two wheels of the same size, making it much more stable.
