Meet the Speedy Sky-Giant!

Imagine a super-duper fast airplane, bigger than a school bus, that could fly across oceans! That was the Boeing 707, a special kind of plane that was like a flying car for many people. Sabena Flight 548 was one of these amazing planes, ready to take people on a long trip from America all the way to a country called Belgium.

A Journey to Shine Bright!

This plane was carrying a very special group of people: the whole United States figure skating team! They were going to a big competition, like the Olympics for ice skaters, in a city called Prague. They were practicing their amazing spins and jumps, dreaming of winning shiny medals. Everyone on the plane was excited for their adventure.

A Sad Landing

Sadly, on February 15, 1961, something went wrong as the plane got close to the airport in Belgium. The big plane crashed. It was a very, very sad day because everyone on the plane, and even one person on the ground, lost their lives. This was the first time a Boeing 707 plane had a terrible accident like this.

Learning from the Skies

Even though this was a very sad event, it helped people learn how to make airplanes even safer. Engineers studied what happened very carefully. They wanted to make sure that future flights would be as safe as possible for everyone flying. It’s like learning from a mistake to build something even better and stronger.
