When Big Countries Had a Big Tussle!

Once upon a time, two powerful countries, Russia and the Ottoman Empire (which was like a very old, big country), had a huge disagreement. This disagreement turned into a big fight called the Russo-Turkish War, happening from 1877 to 1878. It was like a really long, serious argument that spilled onto the battlefield.

They were fighting over who got to control certain lands and protect certain groups of people living there.

Why Were They Fighting Anyway?

The Ottoman Empire was getting weaker, and some of the people living in its lands, like Bulgarians, wanted to be free and have their own country. Russia saw this and decided to help them. But the Ottoman Empire didn't want to let go of its land.

So, Russia stepped in to help the people who wanted independence. It was a bit like a big sibling stepping in when they see someone being treated unfairly, but on a much, much bigger scale!

Battles and Brave Soldiers!

This war had many important battles. One of the toughest fights happened at a place called Plevna. It was a very long and difficult battle that lasted for months! Soldiers on both sides were very brave, but many were also hurt. The war was fought in places that are now countries like Bulgaria and Romania. Imagine fighting across vast fields and mountains, with soldiers marching for days!

A New Map for Europe!

When the fighting finally stopped, the world's map looked different. The Ottoman Empire lost a lot of land. Countries like Bulgaria became more independent, which was a big win for them! This war helped shape the countries we know today in Eastern Europe. It showed that people fighting for their freedom could sometimes win, even against a big empire.
