Where is This Icy Place?

Imagine a super-duper cold place called Antarctica! Rothschild Island is a big, rugged island way down there. It's like a giant, bumpy rock covered in snow and ice. It's about as long as 39 school buses lined up end-to-end! It sits in a big ocean called Wilkins Sound, not too far from another big island called Alexander Island.

Mountains That Say Hello!

Even though most of Rothschild Island is covered in a thick blanket of ice, there are special mountains that stick out! These are called the Desko Mountains. They are like the island's pointy hats, peeking out from the white snow. It's a very wild and frozen place, with hardly any people living there because it's so cold and icy all the time.

A World of White!

Rothschild Island is mostly covered in ice, like a giant ice cream scoop! This ice is super thick and has been there for a very, very long time. The mountains that pop out are rugged, which means they have rough, rocky sides. It's a place that looks very different from your playground or your town because it's so wild and frozen.

Why is it Called Rothschild Island?

This island got its name a long time ago from explorers who sailed to these icy lands. They named it after someone important to them. It's a special name for a special place in the world. Even though no one lives there, it's an important part of the big, amazing continent of Antarctica.
