Where Does the River Dee Live?

The River Dee is like a long, wiggly blue ribbon across the land! It starts way up high in the mountains of Snowdonia, a place called Dduallt. From there, it flows east, like it's heading towards the sunrise.

It visits a big lake called Bala Lake and then winds its way through towns like Corwen and Llangollen. It's mostly in Wales, but it also pops over into England for a bit before returning to Wales. It finally flows into the big, salty Irish Sea.

A River's Big Adventure!

This river is a real traveler! It's 70 miles long, which is like walking from your home to your grandma's house and back about 10 times! It flows through Snowdonia's amazing mountains and then through green fields and towns.

Sometimes it forms a border, like a natural fence, between Wales and England. It even goes through a big city called Chester before it reaches the sea. That's a lot of places for one river to visit!

What's So Special About the Dee?

The River Dee is super important for the land it flows through. It brings fresh water to plants and animals. It's also a home for fish and other creatures that live in the water. People have lived near the Dee for a very, very long time because rivers are like nature's highways, making it easy to travel and find food. It's a vital part of the Welsh landscape, making it beautiful and alive.

Meet the River's Namesake!

Did you know the River Dee has different names? In Welsh, its special name is Afon Dyfrdwy. The ancient Romans, who were like super-old builders and soldiers, called it Deva Fluvius. It's amazing how a river can have so many names from different times and people! It shows how long it's been an important part of this land.
