Sudan Says 'Hello, World!'

Once upon a time, Sudan was like a shared toy between Egypt and the United Kingdom. But on January 1, 1956, Sudan decided it wanted to be its own country! The leaders in Sudan made a special announcement, like a birthday wish, to become independent. This was a super exciting time, like the first day of school in a brand new building.

Who Was in Charge?

After becoming a country, Sudan had a team of five important people, called a Supreme Commission, who were like the captains of a ship, guiding the country. But then, in 1958, some army leaders decided they wanted to take charge. A man named General Ibrahim Abboud became the new leader. It was like a change in the playground supervisor!

A New Leader Steps In!

The leaders in charge didn't stay forever. In 1969, another group of army leaders, led by Colonel Gaafar Nimeiry, decided it was time for a change again. They started a new chapter for Sudan, calling it the Democratic Republic of Sudan. This shows that countries, like people, can change their minds and try new ways of doing things.

Sudan's Big Day!

The most important thing about this time is that Sudan became its own boss! It stopped being shared and started making its own rules. This is called independence, and it's a really big deal for any country. It means they get to decide their own future and how they want to live.
