Quidditch: The Real-Life Broomstick Game!

Quidditch is a super exciting team sport that's a bit like basketball and dodgeball mixed together. Instead of flying on magical brooms, players run with a 'broomstick' between their legs! Two teams try to throw a ball through hoops to score points.

It's inspired by the magical game from the Harry Potter books, but made for everyone to play in the real world. It's a game that's played all around the globe by lots of different people.

This amazing sport started in 2005 at a college called Middlebury College in Vermont, USA. The people who started it loved the Harry Potter books and wanted to play a game like Quidditch themselves. At first, they called it 'Muggle Quidditch' because 'muggles' are people without magic in the books.

Now, it's called Quadball and it's played by thousands of people everywhere, showing that you don't need magic to have magical fun!

In Quadball, players called Chasers try to throw a ball called the 'Quadball' through one of three hoops to score 10 points. But watch out! Players called 'Beaters' can throw dodgeballs at the other team. If you get hit by a dodgeball, you have to drop your ball and run back to touch your hoops before you can play again. It’s a fast and tricky game where you have to score and avoid getting hit!

The most exciting part is catching the 'Snitch'! This isn't a magical creature, but a tennis ball in a sock tied to a referee's shorts. When a player called a 'Seeker' catches the Snitch, their team gets 30 points! This can end the game right away if they have the most points. It’s like a surprise bonus that makes every game super unpredictable and thrilling!
