Key Facts
A Land of Big Rivers and Lakes!
This was a super big place called the Province of Quebec. It stretched from the Atlantic Ocean, way past where the mighty Saint Lawrence River flows, all the way to the Great Lakes! Think of it like a huge playground with lots of water.
It was much bigger than any country you've probably seen on a map. The land had forests and rivers, and the weather could be very cold in winter with lots of snow, and warm in the summer.
Who Lived Here and What Did They Do?
People who lived here spoke French and English. Some were farmers, and others were traders. They lived in towns and villages, and life was quite different from today. They had to work hard to grow food and build their homes. It was a time of change because the British had taken over from the French, so people had to get used to new rules and ways of doing things.
Trading Treasures and Making a Living!
The people in Quebec were busy! They traded things like furs, which were very valuable. Imagine trading animal skins for other cool stuff! They also grew crops like wheat. This helped them make money and get the things they needed. It was like a big marketplace where everyone was working to get by and maybe even get a little richer.
Who Was in Charge?
The King of Great Britain was in charge of this big land. He sent people to govern and make sure everything ran smoothly. There was a governor, like a principal of a giant school, who made important decisions. The laws were also changing because it was now a British colony, not a French one anymore. This meant new rules for everyone living there.
