Who Was the Big Boss?

The President of the Confederate States was like the captain of a ship, leading a brand-new country called the Confederacy. This country was formed by some states that decided to go their own way. The president was in charge of making sure laws were followed, like a principal in a school, and was also the boss of the army and navy, like a superhero's commander!

The Only President Ever!

There was only one person who got to be the President of the Confederate States. His name was Jefferson Davis. He first became president when the country was just starting out, like a new club. Then, he was chosen again for a longer time. He was the only one to ever hold this special job until the country ended.

How Did They Get the Job?

It wasn't like today where people vote directly for the president. Back then, people voted for special electors, like choosing team captains who then picked the president. The president was elected for a six-year term, which is longer than you're in elementary school! This made the job a really big deal.

What Could the President Do?

The president had lots of important jobs! They could sign laws, just like a teacher signing permission slips. They could also choose people for important jobs, like picking the best players for a team. Plus, they could even make peace treaties with other countries, like agreeing to share toys nicely.
