The Premier of the Soviet Union was the boss of the government, like the principal of a giant school! This job had different names over the years. First, it was called the Chairman of the Council of People's Commissars, and later it became the Chairman of the Council of Ministers. The very first Premier was a super important person named Vladimir Lenin, who helped start the country!

Who Was the Boss?

After Vladimir Lenin, another leader named Joseph Stalin became very powerful. Sometimes, the person who was the main leader of the whole country was also the Premier. It was like if your class president was also the teacher! Twelve different people got to be the Premier during the time the Soviet Union existed. It was a big job for a big country!

What Did They Do?

The Premier was in charge of running the country every day. They made sure things like schools, hospitals, and factories were working. They were like the captain of a big ship, making sure everyone on board was safe and heading in the right direction. It was a very important job that needed a lot of smarts and hard work!

The End of an Era

The Soviet Union eventually broke up in 1991. When that happened, the job of Premier changed one last time. It was briefly called the Prime Minister and then the Chairman of the Committee on the Operational Management of the Soviet Economy. It was the end of a long time with Premiers leading the country.
