Key Facts
Meet the Amazing Milu!
Have you ever heard of a deer with a super long name? Père David's deer, also called the milu, is a special kind of deer that used to live in China. They love to munch on yummy grasses and plants that grow near rivers and in watery places.
They are the only deer in their whole family, like a one-of-a-kind celebrity! These deer are pretty big, about as tall as a grown-up person, and can weigh as much as a small car!
A Deer's Tale of Disappearing and Returning!
Once upon a time, these deer were almost all gone from China because people hunted them too much. But guess what? Some kind people took them to zoos far away. Later, a very important person named the Duke of Bedford in England decided to help them. He gathered a bunch of these deer and let them live and have babies on his big farm. It was like a secret deer rescue mission!
Back Home Again!
After many years, the Duke's grandson decided it was time for the milu to go back to China. So, they carefully sent many of these deer back to their home country. Now, there are thousands of them living happily in special parks and in the wild again!
It’s like they got a second chance to live their best deer lives. All the Père David's deer you see today are related to those deer that lived on the Duke's farm.
Why Milu are Super Special!
These deer are super special because they almost vanished forever! They are a reminder that we need to take care of animals and their homes. Scientists are still learning about them, and they are related to other kinds of deer, like Eld's deer. It's amazing how these unique animals were saved and are now doing much better, all thanks to people who cared.
