Prasat Ta Muen Thom

Key Facts
Meet the Great-Grandpa Chicken Temple!
Imagine a super old building hiding in a forest, right on the border between two countries! That's Prasat Ta Muen Thom. Its name sounds funny because in an old language, it means 'Great Temple of Grandfather Chicken'! It's like a secret clubhouse from a long, long time ago. This temple is part of a group of three buildings that were super important for travelers centuries ago.
A Busy Road from Long Ago
Think of a superhighway, but made of dirt and used by elephants and people! Prasat Ta Muen Thom was a special stop on one of these ancient roads. It was on the way from a big city called Angkor to another important place called Phimai. Travelers would stop here to rest and get help, just like we stop at rest areas on long car trips today. It was a very busy place a thousand years ago!
When Treasures Went Missing!
Sadly, sometimes bad people tried to steal from this special place. Not too long ago, people called the Khmer Rouge took parts of the temple, like statues and stones, to sell them. They even used loud bangs, like fireworks, to break things! It's like someone trying to steal pieces of your favorite toy. But even with some pieces missing, the temple is still amazing to see.
More Chicken Temples Nearby!
Prasat Ta Muen Thom isn't alone! Just a little way off, there are two other temples with similar names. One is called Prasat Ta Muen Toch, which means 'Minor Temple of Grandfather Chicken'. This one was like a special hospital for travelers. And even closer is Prasat Ta Muen, the 'Temple of Grandfather Chicken', which was like a cozy guesthouse. Together, they made a whole ancient travel center!
