Where the River Meets the Sea!

The Port of London is a special part of the River Thames, a famous river in England. It's like a giant watery road that goes all the way from a place called Teddington Lock out to the big, wide North Sea. Think of it as a super long driveway for ships! This port is so big, it used to be the busiest in the whole world, and it's still super important for the United Kingdom today.

Ships, Ships, Everywhere!

This port is a busy place for all sorts of boats. Big cruise ships where people go on holiday, speedy roll-on roll-off ferries that carry cars, and huge cargo ships packed with goods from faraway lands all visit here. It’s like a giant parking lot for boats of all shapes and sizes, making sure everything gets where it needs to go.

A Super Busy History!

A long, long time ago, the Port of London was the busiest place like it on Earth! Ships from everywhere would come here. But as ships got bigger and bigger, like giant floating buildings, they needed more space. So, many of the docks moved further down the river, closer to the open sea, so the super-sized ships could fit more easily.

Keeping Things Moving Smoothly!

There's a special group called the Port of London Authority that helps make sure everything runs smoothly. They started way back in 1908, which is a super long time ago! They are like the traffic police for the river, making sure ships don't bump into each other and that everything is safe and organized for all the boats and people.
