Philip Snowden, 1st Viscount Snowden

Philip Snowden was a very important person in Britain a long time ago. He was born in 1864 and lived until 1937. He was known for being a super good speaker!

People loved to listen to him because he talked about making things fairer for everyone. He believed that the way things were run, with lots of rich people and not-so-rich people, wasn't right. He dreamed of a world where everyone had what they needed, like a big, happy playground for all!

Philip Snowden had a very special job called Chancellor of the Exchequer. Imagine being in charge of all the money for the whole country! He did this job twice.

First, in 1924, and then again from 1929 to 1931. This was a huge deal because he was the very first person from the Labour party to get this job. The Labour party wanted to help working people, and Philip Snowden was a big part of that.

He was like the captain of a ship, steering the country's money.

Sometimes, people change their minds, and Philip Snowden did too. In 1931, he decided to do something different. He didn't agree with his party anymore and joined a different group.

This made a lot of people upset, and they called him a 'turncoat,' which means someone who switches sides. It was a bit like changing teams in a game right before the end! Because he helped the new group, his old party didn't do very well in the next election.

Philip Snowden is remembered because he was a powerful voice for change. He spoke out against unfairness and wanted to create a better society. Even though he made a big change in his own political journey, his early ideas about helping everyone were very important.

He showed that one person's words could make a big difference and that people could dream of a world that was more equal and just for all its citizens.
