Who Was This King Pepin?

Imagine a king who wasn't super tall, but was super important! That was Pepin the Short. He was born a long, long time ago, around the year 714. He became the King of the Franks, which was a big job. He was the very first king from a special family called the Carolingians. This family would become very famous later on!

Pepin's Big Adventures!

Pepin and his brother Carloman had to be brave when they were young. They even had to lock up their own half-brother! Later, they ruled together. Pepin was good at making sure everyone followed the rules and helped the Christian Church. When his brother decided to become a monk, Pepin became the main boss of the whole kingdom.

A King Who Helped the Pope!

Pepin was a good friend to the Pope, who is like the leader of the Catholic Church. When bad guys called the Lombards were bothering the Pope in Italy, Pepin rode in with his army to help! He was so good at helping that the Pope even blessed Pepin and his sons, saying they were special. Pepin gave some land to the Pope, which helped start a new country!

Pepin's Awesome Army!

Pepin was also a great warrior. He led his soldiers to win battles and make his kingdom bigger. He fought against people in a place called Septimania and won! He also fought against tough groups like the Saxons and Bavarians, though they kept trying to fight back. Pepin was a busy king, always working to protect and grow his land.
