Key Facts
Meet Paul: A Super Strong Spirit!
Paul Alexander was a super special person who got sick when he was just six years old. The sickness was called polio, and it made it hard for him to breathe on his own. So, he had to live inside a big, metal machine called an iron lung.
This machine helped him breathe! Even though he was in the iron lung for almost his whole life, Paul didn't let it stop him from doing amazing things. He was a lawyer and even wrote a book!
His Amazing Iron Lung Home!
The iron lung is like a giant metal cylinder that covers your whole body, except for your head. It works like a big bellows, pushing air into your lungs so you can breathe. Paul spent nearly 72 years inside his iron lung!
That's longer than most people live! It was like living in a special room that helped him stay alive. He learned to move his head and talk, and he even used a special straw to drink and a pen to write.
Paul's Brain Power!
Even though his body needed help to breathe, Paul's brain was super smart and strong! He went to college and became a lawyer. That means he studied laws and helped people with their problems.
He even passed a big test to become a real lawyer. He also wrote his own story, a book called 'Three Minutes to Midnight,' so people could learn about his life. He showed everyone that you can do big things no matter what.
Sharing His Story with the World!
In his later years, Paul became famous on a fun app called TikTok! He used his computer to talk to people and share his experiences. He showed millions of people around the world what it was like to live in an iron lung and how he managed to live a full life. He inspired so many people to be brave and never give up, even when things are really, really hard. Paul Alexander was a true hero!
