Where the Big Decisions Happen!

The Parliament of South Africa is like the country's brain! It's located in a beautiful city called Cape Town, which is like the country's special meeting spot. Cape Town has amazing mountains and the big, blue ocean nearby. The Parliament buildings are where the leaders gather to talk and decide important things for everyone in South Africa. It's a very busy and important place!

A House Built for Talking

The Parliament has two main parts, like two big rooms for talking. One is called the National Assembly, and the other is the National Council of Provinces. These rooms are inside a big building that was built a long, long time ago, between 1875 and 1884. That's even older than your grandparents! Sadly, a fire damaged one of the rooms, so they had to find a new place to meet for a while.

Making Rules for Everyone!

For a long time, only a few people got to help make the rules. But in 1994, something super special happened! Everyone in South Africa, no matter what they looked like, got to help choose the leaders. This is called universal suffrage, and it means everyone's voice can be heard. Now, the Parliament works hard to make sure the rules are fair for all the people.

Who Works Here?

The people who work in Parliament are called Members of Parliament, or MPs. They are chosen by the people of South Africa to represent them. They spend their days discussing ideas, listening to different opinions, and voting on new laws. It’s like being a class representative, but for the whole country! They have a very big job to do.
