Oxford Street is a super famous road in a busy part of London called the West End. It's like the main street in a giant city! It stretches all the way from a big arch called Marble Arch to another spot called Tottenham Court Road. Lots of people visit every single day, more than you can count on your fingers and toes many times over!

This street is super old, even older than your grandparents! It used to be a Roman road, like a path for ancient chariots. Later, it was known for a very different reason – public hangings! But don't worry, it changed a lot. In the olden days, it became a place for traders and then, guess what? Huge department stores like Selfridges popped up, making it a shopping paradise!

Oxford Street is famous for its shops! It's actually Europe's busiest shopping street. Imagine hundreds of shops all lined up, selling everything from toys to clothes to yummy snacks. It's so popular that about 300,000 people visit it every single day! That's like filling up a whole stadium with people, just to go shopping!

Every year, Oxford Street gets decorated with beautiful Christmas lights, and a famous person switches them on! It's a really special event. Because so many people and buses use the street, it can get very crowded. To help everyone get around safely, they've made the sidewalks wider and sometimes even stop cars from driving there during the day.
