It's the biggest city in its province, which is like a big state. Opole is a busy place with lots of people living there, almost as many as in a very large school!

Opole is sometimes called 'Polish Venice' because it has pretty canals and lots of bridges. These canals are like little rivers that go through the city, making it look very special and a bit like the famous city of Venice in Italy.

A Super Old City!

Opole is super old, with a history that started way back in the 8th century! That's over a thousand years ago! It was an important fort for a long, long time.

In 1172, it became the capital of a special area called a duchy. Later, in 1217, it was given city rights, which meant it could grow and become even more important. It was a busy place for trading, with roads crossing through it, bringing lots of goods and money.

Fun Things to Do in Opole!

Opole is famous for its National Festival of Polish Song, which happens every single year! Imagine a giant music party that people come to from everywhere. There are also lots of other fun events, like fairs and competitions, happening all the time.

The city has a beautiful Old Town, and with all the canals and bridges, it's a really lovely place to explore. It's also home to universities where people go to learn after high school.

Lots of different people have lived in Opole over its long history, including Poles, Czechs, Austrians, and Germans. Today, it's a Polish city, but many people in the area have German roots. The city is a center for learning, with four different places for people to study after they finish school.

These include Opole University and Opole University of Technology, where students learn all sorts of interesting things.
