Where is Bald Mountain?

Bald Mountain is a special place in Russia! It's not a real mountain you can climb, but a name from old stories. These stories tell of a magical night when witches would gather there. It's like a spooky playground in the imagination, where music paints a picture of a wild party under the moon!

A Composer's Spooky Song

A man named Modest Mussorgsky loved these witch stories. He wrote a piece of music called 'Night on Bald Mountain' to sound like the witches' party. He finished it on a special night in June, hoping it would be played for everyone. But, his teacher didn't like it at first, so it wasn't played when he was alive!

A Magical Makeover!

After Mussorgsky was gone, another musician named Rimsky-Korsakov heard the music. He thought it was too good to keep hidden! He changed it a little bit to make it sound even more exciting for an orchestra. This new version became super famous and is what most people hear today.

Dancing with Toons!

Guess what? This spooky music was even in a famous cartoon movie called Fantasia! The music played while animated characters danced and zoomed around. It's amazing how music can tell a story and make us imagine all sorts of magical and sometimes scary things, even witches dancing!
