Where is This Big Place?

Canada's Capital Region is like a special zone around the country's most important cities. It's not just one city, but a whole area! The main city is Ottawa in Ontario, and right across a river is Gatineau in Quebec.

This region is like a big hug around these two cities, stretching out to include smaller towns and countryside. It's a place where two provinces, Ontario and Quebec, meet and share a special part of Canada.

A River Runs Through It!

The super important Ottawa River flows right through the middle of the Capital Region! It's like a giant blue ribbon separating Ontario and Quebec. The whole region is about as big as a very large park, covering lots of land and water.

Even though it's called a 'region,' it's not its own separate place with its own rules. It's part of Ontario and Quebec, but it's extra special because it's where Canada's capital is located.

What Do People Do Here?

Lots of people live and work in Canada's Capital Region! Many people have jobs that help run the country, like working for the government in big buildings. Others work in amazing museums, beautiful parks, or help visitors learn about Canada. It's a busy place with lots of different jobs for everyone. People also love to explore the nature, like forests and rivers, that are all around the cities.

Who Makes the Rules?

Even though the Capital Region is special, it doesn't have its own government like a separate country. The cities of Ottawa and Gatineau, and all the towns around them, are part of either Ontario or Quebec. So, they follow the rules of those provinces.

But, because it's the capital area, the Canadian government has special ways to help take care of important places and make sure everything runs smoothly for the whole country.
