The députés have a very important job. They are like the rule-makers for France. They meet for five years to discuss and vote on new laws.
Sometimes, the President of France can ask for new elections sooner if they think it's needed. The President of the National Assembly is like the teacher who makes sure everyone gets a turn to speak and that the meetings run smoothly. They are guarded by special soldiers called Republican Guards!
