Welcome to the Jungle City!

Imagine a city from long, long ago, hidden deep in a green jungle! That's Naranjo. It was a super important Maya city in a place called Guatemala, way before cars or even bicycles. People lived here for over a thousand years, from when dinosaurs were gone but people were still building amazing things. It's like a giant puzzle piece from history, waiting to be explored.

A City of Beautiful Pots!

The people of Naranjo were amazing artists, especially when it came to making pottery. They created colorful pots, called ceramics, that were so special they are famous even today! These pots tell stories about their lives, their kings, and their beliefs. It's like they left behind a treasure chest of art for us to find and admire.

Where the Corn Gruel Flowed!

Did you know Naranjo had a special name in the Maya language? It meant 'the place where corn gruel abounds.' Corn gruel was like a yummy, thick porridge that was very important food for them. The rulers of Naranjo were even called the 'Holy Lords of Sa'aal,' which means they were the special leaders of this place where food was plentiful.

A Park Full of History!

Today, Naranjo is part of a big national park called Yaxha-Nakum-Naranjo National Park. This park protects the old city and the beautiful nature around it. It's near two rivers, the Mopan and Holmul, and not too far from another famous Maya city called Tikal. It’s a special place where history and nature meet.
