Meet the Giants!

Mountains are like Earth's super-tall buildings, reaching way up into the sky! They are made of rock and earth, and some are so big they have snow on top all year round, even when it's warm down below. Think of them as giant, bumpy blankets covering parts of our planet.

They can be found on every continent, from the tallest peaks in Asia to the ones hidden in faraway lands. They are truly amazing natural wonders!

When Did Mountains Get Their Start?

Mountains didn't just pop up overnight! They formed over millions and millions of years. Imagine squishing playdough together really hard; that's kind of how some mountains were made when huge pieces of Earth's crust pushed against each other.

Other mountains were built by volcanoes erupting over and over, piling up lava and ash. It's like they were slowly built by nature's own construction crew, taking their sweet time to create these massive structures.

What's Life Like Up High?

Even though mountains look bare, many amazing animals call them home! Eagles soar on the wind, mountain goats with special hooves climb steep cliffs, and fuzzy marmots whistle to warn their friends. The air is thinner and colder the higher you go, so animals and plants living there have to be super tough.

It's a special world with unique challenges, where only the most adapted creatures can thrive and survive in this amazing environment.

Why We Love Mountains!

People love mountains for so many reasons! They are perfect for hiking, climbing, and even skiing down snowy slopes. Mountains give us clean water because rain and snow collect there and flow down into rivers.

They also look incredibly beautiful and make us feel small and amazed by nature's power. Mountain Day is a special time to celebrate these incredible places and remember how important they are to our world.
