Meet the Giant Mountains!

Way up north in Canada, near a big city called Vancouver, are some super tall mountains called the Mount Meager massif. They are part of a long line of mountains called the Coast Mountains. These mountains are so big, they look like a giant sleeping dragon!

The tallest peak is as high as a very tall skyscraper, reaching up to 2,680 meters (8,790 feet). That's almost as tall as 10 Eiffel Towers stacked on top of each other! It's a wild place with rocky peaks and sometimes snow, even when it's not winter.

When the Mountains Roared!

These mountains are actually volcanoes, and they have a big secret: they can wake up! A super long time ago, about 2,400 years back, one of the mountains had a HUGE explosion. It was the biggest volcano party Canada has seen in thousands of years!

Hot ash and rocks shot out, making big avalanches that zoomed down the sides. Even though it hasn't erupted in over 2,000 years, scientists watch it closely because it could rumble again someday.

Nature's Big Moves

Sometimes, these mountains like to move in other ways, too! They can cause giant landslides, like a huge pile of dirt and rocks tumbling down. In 2010, a massive landslide happened, sending tons of stuff rushing down a creek and a river. It's like a giant playground slide, but much, much bigger and a bit scary! These movements show how powerful nature can be.

Keeping an Eye on the Giants

Because these mountains are volcanoes, scientists are always watching them. They have special tools to listen for rumbling and feel if the ground shakes. If the mountains were to wake up and have another big eruption, there are teams ready to tell everyone nearby to stay safe. It’s like having a super-hero team ready to protect people from the mountain’s big surprises!
