Key Facts
Meet the Baseball Stars from Montreal!
The Montreal Expos were a super cool professional baseball team that played in a league called Major League Baseball. They were special because they were the very first team from outside the United States to play in this league! Think of it like being the first kid from a different country to join your school's best sports team. They played games from 1969 all the way until 2004.
From a Big Fair to a Baseball Field!
Guess what? The team got its name from a giant world's fair called 'Expo 67' that happened in Montreal. It was like a huge party with amazing buildings and lots of visitors!
After the fair, people in Montreal wanted their own baseball team. They got one, and it was named the Expos! They first played in a stadium called Jarry Park, which was like a big playground for baseball, and later moved to the even bigger Olympic Stadium.
WOW! A Perfect Game and a Star Player!
Did you know that one of the Expos pitchers, Dennis Martínez, threw a 'perfect game'? That means he didn't let ANY batters get on base for the entire game – it's super, super rare! Another amazing player, Vladimir Guerrero, hit lots of home runs, which are like giant hits that score lots of points. He was so good, he's in the Baseball Hall of Fame!
Where Did the Expos Go?
After playing in Montreal for many years, the Expos team eventually moved to a new city called Washington, D.C. They became a new team called the Washington Nationals. Even though the Expos aren't in Montreal anymore, people still remember them as the first Canadian team to play in Major League Baseball and for all the exciting games they played!
