Where is This Big Blue Place?

Imagine a giant bathtub in the Pacific Ocean! That’s kind of like the Molucca Sea. It’s located near Indonesia, a country made of many islands. Think of it being hugged by islands called Celebes on one side and Halmahera on the other. It’s a super big watery space, about as wide as 20,000 school buses parked end-to-end!

Underwater Gardens and Deep Dives!

This sea is like a treasure chest for fish! It’s packed with colorful coral reefs where tiny fish love to play hide-and-seek. But it’s also super deep in some spots. One part, called the Batjan basin, is so deep that if you dropped a super tall building in it, the top would still be underwater! It's like a giant underwater slide.

Why is the Sea Shaking?

Sometimes, the ground under the Molucca Sea rumbles and shakes! This happens because the sea itself is like a giant puzzle piece that’s being pushed and pulled from two sides. It’s like when you push two rugs together, and they wrinkle up. This movement helps move water from the big Pacific Ocean into smaller seas nearby.

A Home for Many!

Even though it’s a sea, it’s a very important home for lots of sea creatures. The colorful corals are like underwater cities for fish, and the deep parts are home to special animals that like the dark. People who live near the Molucca Sea also rely on it for food and for traveling between islands.
