Who Was Mohammed Deif?
Mohammed Deif was a Palestinian leader. He was in charge of a group called the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades. This group is part of Hamas. He became their leader a long time ago, in 2002. He was known for being very good at planning. He was a very important person in the Gaza Strip for many years. People knew him as a leader who was hard to find.
Where Did He Come From?
Mohammed Deif was born in 1965 in a place called the Khan Yunis Refugee Camp. This camp is in the Gaza Strip. His family had to leave their homes a long time ago. He went to college and studied chemistry. He even started a theater group at his university! Later, he joined Hamas when it was just starting. He got the nickname 'Deif' which means 'guest' because he moved around a lot to stay hidden.
What Did He Do?
Deif was known for planning big actions. He helped plan attacks that involved rockets and tunnels. He was a main planner for the attacks that happened on October 7th. These attacks started a big conflict in Gaza. He was on a list of wanted people for a very long time. He was targeted many times, but he always managed to escape.
